INCLINED CPTU (Venice zone, May 2013)

Using the CPTWD Cone Penetration Test While Drilling is possible to perform CPTU in any direction, recently has been performed a 20 m long test with inclination of 20° on the vertical.

Has been used a Atlas Copco A66 drill-rig and a custom wireline equipment Ø 130 mm.

A CPTU was requested to be executed underneath a railway embankment made up of ballast, and was not possible to install drill rig or penetrometer on the top of the embankment due to the traffic of Trains and the thickness of the ballast fill.

This attempt shows that would be possible performing CPTU in almost any condition, using the right tools.
